This piece touches on the intermingling paradigms of race and class.
Particularly, their role in constructing bifurcated experiences of (and contributions to) air pollution.
It is a critical depiction of the alleged human-nature divide, a Cartesian assumption that plays on racist ontologies to expel Black and brown people from humanity into the realm of nature, rendering us exploitable, expendable, and free for the taking.
The aim is for this painting to offer a scathing reminder that air pollution, access to healthcare, and vulnerability to premature death is a race issue, and a class struggle between the haves and the have nots.
